What is the status and translation of the following du’a?
Bismillah wa da’tu jambi Allahumagh firli dhambi wa akhsi shaytani wa fukka rihani waj’alni fin nadiyyil a’ala
Answer
This du’a is recorded in Sunan Abi Dawud and other Hadith collections. Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would recite this du’a when retiring to bed.
(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 5015)
Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith authentic and ‘Allamah Dhahabi concurs. ‘Allamah Nawawi (rahimahullah) has declared the chain of Abu Dawud sound (hasan).

Arabic text of the du’a
بسم الله وضعت جنبي اللهم اغفر لي ذنبي وأخس شيطاني وفك رهاني واجعلني في الندي الأعلى
Translation
I place my side/lay down in the Name of Allah. O Allah! Forgive my sins, chase away my Shaytan, free me from all liabilities and place me among the high gathering [of angels]
Note:
Some versions of this narration have the additional words ‘wa thaqqil mizani’ after ‘wa fukka rihani’.
