What is the authenticity of this narration?
“By Allah, Muhammad is described in Tawrah with some of the qualities attributed to him in the Quran as follows: “O Prophet ! We have sent you as a witness And a giver of glad tidings, And a warner And guardian of the illiterates. You are My slave and My messenger. I have named you “Al Mutawakkil”. You are neither discourteous nor harsh”
Answer
This narration is recorded in Sahih Bukhari and is therefore authentic. The full narration is as follows:
‘Ata ibn Yasar (rahimahullah) says I met ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibnul ‘As (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) and asked him to inform me of the description of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) in the Tawrah. He said, ‘Certainly, by Allah, Some of his descriptions in the Tawrah are [similar] to his descriptions/characteristics mentioned in the Quran:
“O Nabi, We have sent you as a witness, a bearer of glad tidings and a warner [Surah Al-Ahzab, Verse: 54]. A refuge for the unlettered. You are My slave and My Messenger. I have called you ‘Al Mutawakkil’ [The one who fully trusts in Allah], one who is neither impolite/rude nor uncouth and who neither shouts in the markets [raising the voice when bargaining] nor repays evil with evil, but rather pardons and forgives. Allah will not allow him to leave this world until he corrects through him the incorrect/crooked religion [of the Disbelievers] and they [the Disbelievers] say, ‘La ilaha ilallah’ Through which blind eyes, deaf ears and covered hearts will be opened.”
