Walaikumussalam w w

Dr. Zakir Naik is a controversial figure. He is good in the field of comparative religious studies.

However, he is not a Hafiz nor an Alim. He doesn’t know the Arabic language thus he relies on translations, and because of that, he makes major mistakes in translations and in Masaail.

Another problem is that he quotes too much from the bible, whereas, Once Sayyiduna Umar رضي الله عنه brought some pages from the Tawraah to Rasulullah صلي الله عليه وسلم, He thought that the passages support Islam, so Rasulullah صلي الله عليه وسلم will get happy. He began to read them and Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam got really angry.

In another narration, Sayyiduna Umar رضي الله عنه said: “We hear some sayings from the Jews which amaze us. Do you suggest that we write them down? Rasulullah صلي الله عليه وسلم got angry and said, “Are you having doubts (regarding your religion) like the Jews and Christians had doubts!? Verily I have brought to you a manifest, clear (clear as milk) religion. And if Musa were alive , he would not have a choice but to follow me”.

In another Hadith, Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam was asked regarding the statements of Ahle Kitab and he said لا تصدقوهم ولا تكذبوهم
Ie “Do not confirm not deny” so this behaviour is a innovation on his part. A bid’ah!

Dr Zakir Naik also quotes from other religious scriptures and gives the impression that Gita is a book of God and the Hindus are also people of the book. Whereas Ahle Kitaab are only Jews and Christians.

We cannot comment on the accuracy of his references from other books. We feel he should never be trusted in Masaail of Deen, as that is the field of the experts and they are the Muftiyane Kiraam. As for his other good works we pray that may Allah reward him.
