A lengthy narration regarding the advices Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) offered just before his demise

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Question

In Tambihul Ghafilin, there is a lengthy narration which mentions the last advices Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) gave a few days before passing away. Is this narration reliable?

The beginning of the narration is as follows:

Answer

The narration recorded in Tambihul Ghafilin you are referring to is recorded with an extremely weak chain. The problematic narrator has also been accused of narrating fabrications.

(Tambihul Ghafilin, Hadith: 898. Refer: Tahdhibul Kamal, vol. 8 pg. 443-449, Tahdhibut Tahdhib, vol. 3 pg. 199-201, Taqribut Tahdhib: 1811, Mizanul I’itidal, vol. 2 pg. 20, number: 2527)

Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) and others has recorded a much more detailed and lengthier version on the authority of Sayyiduna Jabir ibn ‘Abdillah and Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhum).

However, the Muhaddithun have declared this version a fabrication.

(Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 2676. Refer: Talkhisu Kitabil Mawdu’at of ‘Allamah Dhahabi, Hadith: 203, Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 9 pg. 31 and Tanzihush Shari’ah, vol. 1 pg. 327-331)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
