Qurbani Animal Dies

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by CouncilofUlama.co.za

Q: Someone gives me R500 to slaughter one sheep as Qurbani worth that much and give it to prisoners. In my list I have sheep worth different values so I select one worth R500 and put it on his name. Now if that particular sheep dies, do I have to replace it for him or he has to pay for another one?

A: If this Qurbani was a Waajib (compulsory) Qurbani of this person then:

a) If the person is wealthy (i.e. owner of Nisaab) then it will be compulsory on him to slaughter another animal.
b) If the person is not wealthy then it will not be compulsory upon him to slaughter another animal.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows Best
