A du’a to recite four times in the morning or evening

Question

I have heard that this Hadith is recorded in Sahih Bukhari but it is weak. Can I still recite it daily?

Whoever says in the morning, “O Allah, we bear witness to you and we bear witness to the bearers of You Throne and Your angels and all Your creation. You are Allah. There is no god but You, alone with no partner and Muhammad is your slave and Messenger”

Through that, Allah will free a quarter of him from the Fire on that day. If someone says it twice, Allah will free half of him from the Fire. If he says it four times, Allah will free him completely from the Fire on that day.’”

Answer

The Hadith in question is not recorded in Sahih Bukhari and neither is it weak.

Rather, it is declared sound (hasan) and is recorded in Al Adabul Mufrad of Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah).

(Al Adabul Mufrad, Hadith: 1201)

Imam Abu Dawud (rahimahullah) and other Muhaddithun have also recorded the following version:

Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever recites the following in the morning or evening once, Allah will free a quarter of him from the fire. If he recites it twice, Allah will free half of him. If he recites it thrice, Allah will free three quarters of him and whoever recites it four times, Allah will free him [completely] from Jahannam:

O Allah! I enter upon morning, making You a witness, as well as the bearers of Your ‘Arsh, Your angels and Your entire creation that You are Allah. There is no Deity but You and Muhammad is Your slave and Messenger.”

(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 5030)

Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith sound (hasan) due to corroboration.

(Nataijul Afkar, vol. 2 pg. 375-376)

The Hadith is therefore suitable for practice.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
