I am a female who has discharge and would like to know that sometimes as I was that area my finger maybe goes in at the tip of my finger, just a little as I am cleaning the discharge.  Is that the meaning of inserting ones finger in that area?  I will need to know so that I make up qaza for this, and I feel very worried when I wash myself.  Please let me know.  It is not much insertion, perhaps just the tips as I am cleaning in the area.

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatoh

When the books of jurisprudence discuss this case of the fast breaking, they do not intend the slight insertion of a fingertip. Firstly, if the finger is dry, the fast will not break regardless of the depth of insertion unless the dry finger is inserted, taken out and then reinserted. Secondly, the jurists mention that the amount of insertion of a wet finger etc. referred to is the amount that is generally required to insert an enema in the rear. In your scenario, it is unlikely that your finger reached an area of this depth to break your fast. Nevertheless, as a means of precaution, it would be better to avoid any water etc entering the orifice of the private area in the future.

(أو أدخل أصبعه اليابسة فيه) أي دبره أو فرجها ولو مبتلة فسد ولو أدخلت قطنة إن غابت فسد، وإن بقي طرفها في فرجها الخارج لا، ولو بالغ في الاستنجاء

(ولو مبتلة فسد) لبقاء شئ من البلة في الداخل، وهذا لو أدخل الاصبع إلى موضع المحقنة كما يعلم مما بعده (حتى بلغ موضع الحقنة) هي دواء يجعل في خريطة من أدم يقال لها المحقنة مغرب. ثم في بعض النسخ: المحقنة بالميم وهي أولى. قال في الفتح: والحد الذي يتعلق بالوصول إليه لفساد قدر المحقنة اه: أي قدر ما يصل إليه رأس المحقنة التي هي آلة الاحتقان. وعلى الاول فالمراد الموضع الذي ينصب منه الدواء إلى الامعاء (رد المحتار ج 2 ص 397 سعيد)
