Can we give non-Muslim Quran with English translation

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org
A co-worker asked for a Qur’an. I have a handy Quran translated by Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall in English. And it has the Arabic text as well. Is it appropriate to give a non-Muslim such a Quran; or should I find one without the Arabic text in it. Also, for myself, if the Quran has English text as well as Arabic; do I still require wudhu to hold it?
If the Quran is without the any Arabic text, we are not allowed to buy it, keep it, give it to anyone else, or even read it. If the Arabic text is included right alongside the translation by qualified people and there is no danger of confusing the masses then it’s OK to read it, but still it’s not preferred to give to non Muslims based on certain reasons.

We should only present those subjects from the Quran and Hadith to our non Muslim brothers which are appropriate for them. In order to explain Islam to the non Muslims, the scholars of Dean have compiled selections from the verses of the Quran and the sayings of the Messenger of Allah (pbuh), in such a way as to explain to them the beauty, wisdom, and reality of Islam, and in a way to appeal to them. By giving someone a whole copy of the Quran who does not understand the proper context and background of all verses and sayings due to the lack of proper knowledge, we are taking the chance of him/her being confused and misled.

If the Quran is in English transliteration (i.e. Arabic is written in English alphabets) then it is still not allowed to keep such a Quran, or read it, or give it someone else. It’s not a question of touching or not touching. If the Quran is with the proper translation, then if the words of the translation are more than the words of the Quran then it’s OK to touch it without wudu. Most of the time the translation is usually more than the Quran that’s why it’s OK to touch it without wudu.
