Curing Son’s Addiction

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu

I am from Toronto, Canada. My son is 20 years old and is a Hafiz-e-Quran. He finished his memorization of Quran in 2015 and used to recite and revise his Quran every day. But since he started going to the university I have become very concerned about him. He has started going to gatherings where people take drugs e.g. marajiuana. As per my knowledge my son has started smoking weed in ciggarates too. Now he is moving away from his usual recitation and revision of Quran as well. There are a lot of his friends in that group who are also huffaz and they always remain in contact through phones etc. We have to force him a lot after which sometimes he reads half or full page. It seems like he has lost interest in reading Quran, however he still reads salah regularly. He has a lot of irritation these days and he does not want to speak to his family members either. Please provide us a wazeefa or supplication which will help him come back towards the teachigs of Islam. Me and my husband are extremely worried about this situation, may Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta‘ala give you all great reward for helping us, wassalam.

الجواب وباللہ التوفیق

Every morning you should put your hand on his forehead and read یَا شَھِیْدُ twenty one times and blow it on him afterwards.

In addition, once a week, read the same name of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta‘ala a 1000 times and then blow it on him and some water which you should continue to feed him. Also, read the following verses of Quran after every salah and make dua to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta‘ala:

While reciting the word “ذریتی” think about your son. Read durood shareef at the beginning and end of recitation in an odd number (e.g. 1,3, 5 etc.). Ensure that the food being served at home is halal and refrain from feeding things from outside (e.g. restaurants etc.)

InshahAllah he will become obedient, pious and virtuous.
