Question:

Sunnah Way of Wearing a Turban

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

The Prophet () said: The difference between us and the polytheists is that we wear turbans over caps.[1]

From the above Hadith, we can understand that the topi and turban are two separate pieces of clothing and therefore one piece of clothing would not fulfill this.

Furthermore, Allamah Ibrahim Bin Muhammad Al-Baajuriy in his commentary of the famous compilation of Imam At-Tirmizhi entitled Ash-Shamail Al-Muhammadiyyah has stated the turban is that which is wrapped on the head.

He has also stated that the Prophet (peace be upon Him) would hang the tails between his shoulders whilst on occasions he would not do this.[2]

We can conclude from the above that the scarf in the picture does not fit the description of the topi and turban if worn as a scarf left to hang from the head.

If however it is tied around the head then inshallah it will fulfill the sunnah of the turban.

Only Allah knows best
