Indecent Practices: Sinned with a friend, repented, can we still stay in touch?

This is the situation: Two Muslim women, being best friends and room mates have had a sexual relationship. One of these two women have had major surgery on her brain. Both women had made tawbah never to do any haram again. Still living together, they had gone back on their tawbah and started having a relationship again. This relation has been on and off because both women know that what they have been doing is haram. The other woman also had a stroke but still they kept on doing haram on and off…both women have been struggling with themselves and in doing what’s right. Both women now live separately as they had both decided that it’s best for their friendship. One of these two women is getting married soon insha’Allah and the other will move on as well with her life. The bond of friendship between these two women is very strong as they have both done wrong and they want to do right….together.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalamu Alaikum,

Once a person has repented over their sins, it would be better for the person to stay away from the person who he/she committed the sin with. It will facilitate their path towards complete spiritual cleanliness. Since the two have had a dark past with each other, it would be strongly advisable for them to move on in life and cut off all contacts with each other. Satan is our sworn enemy and he has avowed to take every single human being to the hell fire. Don’t give him the chance again to take the two of them away from Allah. Talking with each other and staying in contact with each other just might rekindle and reignite that feeling which they had for each other. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Allah states in the Noble Quran, “And (remember) the Day when the wrong-doer will bite at his hands, he will say: “Oh! Would that I had taken a path with the Messenger (Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihe Wasallam). Ah! Woe to me! Would that I had never taken so-and-so as a friend! He indeed led me astray from the Message (of Allah) after it had come to me.” And Satan is ever a deserter to a human being in the hour of need.” (Surah 25:27~29)

Every saint has a past, every sinner has a future.
