Is it necessary for women to attend the Eid prayers?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Is it permissible for me (a woman) to pray the Eid prayers at home alone or do I have to go the prayers with my husband in the morning? It’s going to be really difficult to go out in the bitter cold so early in the morning with little ones and while being in a pregnant state. If I can pray at home, what do I have to do?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

It is not obligatory for women to attend Eid prayers, nor in itself recommended. If they do not attend, they do not perform the Eid prayer at home—it is only legislated in formal congregations.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani
