Is it true that if a person continues on performing an act that is somewhat disliked, it becomes sinful?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate

May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon His Messenger Muhammad, his folk, companions, and followers

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

No, an action that is somewhat disliked (makruh tanzihi) remains better to leave, without entailing sin, even if made a habit. However, leaving a confirmed sunna (which is disliked and blameworthy) habitually is sinful. [Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar; As`adi, al-Mujaz]See:

Explaining the Hanafi Classification of Legal Rulings

One should remember fulfilling one’s obligations is the right of Allah’s Majesty, but the right of Allah’s Beauty and the means of attaining unto His Love is to go the extra step and perform the sunnas and leave disliked matters, as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) taught in numerous authentic hadiths.
