Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani
I’m pregnant and making sajdah has become difficult for me because of my growing bump. This means I find it difficult to breath properly, and end up doing prostration more briefly than i’d like.
Would I be permitted to offer sajdah the way men offer it in the hanafi school i.e with toes protruding towards the qibla, rather than to the right hand side?
Also would I have to offer the entire prayer in the method men do for it to be valid, or is it sufficient for me just to make sajdah the way men do, and continue all the other actions of salah as I normally would?
Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,
I pray that this finds you well, and in the best of health and spirits. May Allah grant you all good and success in this life and the next. May Allah grant you an easy pregnancy, and a pious child, and envelope both of you and your family in His Mercy.
It would be permitted for you without disliked to prostrate as recommended for men, without having to change other aspects of your prayer, because the “women’s prostration” is recommended and not incumbent. [ Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah; Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar ]
And Allah alone gives success.
