Kaffara for The oath taken by the questioner’s mother

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Jamia Binoria

My mother took an oath, saying “Oh Allah, give me a son, I will make him a Hafiz of the Holy Quran.” After that I was born and I am now 28 years old and until now I have not memorized the Holy Quran. Should I fund someone else to become a Hafiz? My mother, by the grace of Allah, is presently alive. If I have to fund someone else then how much money should I give? Or if there is any other form of expiation (کفارۃ), then kindly inform.

الجواب حامدا و مصلیا

In the mentioned scenario, the oath taken by the questioner’s mother was not valid. It is neither binding upon her due to this oath to make her son a Hafiz of the Holy Quran, nor does she have to do any form as expiation (کفارۃ) for it.
And Allah knows best.
