When saying thanking someone should one say JazakAllah or should the addendum ” Khaira ” be added. Is there any narration which states or allows just the words “JazakAllah” without the addition of “Khaira” As I have heard that JazakAllah alone could possibly be a curse too,( i.e. may Allah extract retributive justice from you) and I was led to believe that this a vestige of the Khawaarij?

Sayyiduna Usamah bin Zayd (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that Nabi (sallalahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said : Whoever says ‘jazaka Allahu Khair’ to the one who has done good to him, has certainly extolled him in praise.
This narration has been declared authentic by Imam Tirmidhi and Ibn Hibban
(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2035, Sahih Ibn Hibban; Al Ihsan, Hadith: 3413)
We were unable to locate a narration that has ‘jazaka Allah’ only. Neither could we ascertain this being the vestige of the Khawarij. Irrespective of this, the ideal would certainly be to say ‘jazakAllahu khair’ as reported in the Hadith.
