Du’a to a debtor when settling a debt

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Please provide the reference for the following du’a:

أَوْفَيْتَنِي أَوْفَى اللَّهُ بِكَ

Awfaytani awfa Allahu bika

Answer

This du’a was recited by a Sahabi (radiyallahu’anhu) when Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) paid him his due.

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 2305)

The creditor is encouraged to recite this upon payment of the debt.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
