Purity

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

I have a question about purity.

If visible impurity is on one’s clothes (for example urine, Mani etc) and one walks around in it, does the impurities transfer in the air, dust and floor and make them unclean?

If one’s hands and forearms are wet with water, do the impurities attach on to them?

Answer

Assalāmuʿalaykum Wa Raḥmatullāhi Wa Barakātuh

  1. If a visible impurity is transferred from one thing to another, then that thing would only be impure if this impurity is visible on it as well; hence, it cannot be said that just by walking around in such clothing which has been stained with impurities that everything else around it would be contaminated.
  2. It is not the case that because one’s hands and forearms are wet that impurities will be attached to them. However, the same ruling above applies in that if a visible impurity attached itself to one’s hands and forearms, whether they are wet or not, it will have to be washed off.
