Position of A Christian Woman Married To A Muslim Man

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Question: In Regards to the Fatwa Nikaah of Christian Male to Muslim Female

Question: If a marriage is to be performed between a Muslim man and a Christian woman, is this permissible. And if so what criteria must be met. Advise accordingly Jazak’Allah.

Answer: Salaams,

This will be permissible if the woman is a believer in One God and she does not believe in the trinity or holds the belief that Jesus is the son of God or an incarnation of God. She must be a chaste woman who refrains from foods and drinks that are deemed to be haram in Islam. She must not have such beliefs that are deemed to be shirk or kufr.
If these requirements are met, then some scholars have stated that it is allowed, but is not the best.

And Allah knows best

Question: Salams with the above ruling on the christian woman…. what would be her position in the hereafter?

Answer:

Assalamu Alaikum,

Once she does not believe in Allah and the finality of the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w), then she will not be considered as a true believer in Islam. If she holds on to her beliefs as a Christian, this means that she has refused to believe in Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w), and this is nothing but a rejection of the truth and a denial of the last Prophet. This will take a person to the fire of Hell. Regarding this, the Prophet (s.a.w) said, ‘By the one in whose hand my soul is, no Jew or Christian of this community hears about me – that is from the community of people from the time of the Prophet (s.a.w) until the day of Judgement – and does not believe in what I brought, except that he is from the inhabitants of the Hell-Fire.’ (Saheeh Muslim).

In the Holy Quran, Allah Has commanded the Jews and the Christians to believe in, and follow the Prophet (s.a.w) for their success and salvation. About this Allah says: “Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered prophet, whom they find written in what they have of the Torah and the Gospel, who enjoins upon them what is right and forbids them what is wrong and makes lawful for them the good things and prohibits for them the evil and relieves them of their burden and the shackles which were upon them. So they who have believed in him, honored him, supported him and followed the light which was sent down with him – it is those who will be the successful.” (Al A”raaf (7) Verse 157).

And Allah Knows Best.
