Question:

Assalam mu Alaikum

I wanted to find out how long after childbirth, one can start back praying, I know they say 40 days, but what if one is still bleeding?

Jazak Allah Khair .

Answer:

Wa Alaikum As Salaam,

The maximum time given is 40 days. If after this, you are still bleeding then this is known as abnormal bleeding and it is not ‘Nifaas’ (bleeding after childbirth). This means that you will have to perform Salaah. In order to perform Salaah, you will have to clean yourself and make wuzu during the time for every Salaah. This means that as soon as the time finishes for one Salaah, then your wuzu will automatically be broken (if no other breakers of wuzu occurred).
