Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

1) Is there any basis of Hadeeth which is often quoted by some Tablighi brothers that the reward of reciting zikr in the path of Allah has 7 lakh times more sawaab. Some also say the reward of offering salaah is 49 crores more times in path of Allah.

2) Is there any basis of Hadeeth which is quoted by some Tablighi brothers that: ‘Thodi der ka ghour-o-fikr 70 saal ki ibaadat (nafli) say afzal hai’

3) What is ‘Ruqyah al Shariah’ and how effective it is in warding off effetcs of sehr and jinn?

4) What is the best way to do ‘bandish’ of a new home to safegaurd it from evil effects?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The immense reward for Salat and Dhikr in the path of Allah you refer to, is not proven from one particular Hadith. Rather, it is taken from two separate Ahadith. The first hadith is as follows,

Whosoever spends in the path of Allah, whilst remaining in his home, will be rewarded for every Dirham he spends the equivalent of seven hundred Dirhams. Whoever physically strives in the path of Allah and spends in its cause will be rewarded for every Dirham he spends the equivalent of seven hundred thousand Dirhams. (Sunan Ibn Mājah)

The second hadith is,

Verily, (the reward of) Salat, Sawm and Dhikr in the path of Allah will be multiplied seven hundred times more than spending in the path of Allah. (Sunan Abū Dāwūd)

We deduce from the first Hadīth that the reward of one who spends in the path of Allah will be multiplied seven hundred thousand times and from the second Hadīth that the reward for Salat, Sawm and Dhikr in the path of Allah will be seven hundred times more than the reward of spending. Therefore, we conclude that the reward for Salat, Sawm and Dhikr in the path of Allah will be 49 karore (700 000 * 700=490 000 000 i.e. 49 karore).

Moreover, it should be borne in mind that this reward is not specific to those spending time in the path of Allah by going in Jamaat. Rather, it is general and encompasses all those who strive in the path of Allah whether by traveling for knowledge, ‘Umrah or Jamaat.

 2. The Hadith you refer to is,

To ponder for a moment is better than worship for sixty years

It is mentioned by Ibn hayyān in his book ‘Adhamah.[3] However, many Muhiddithūn have stated that it is an extremely weak narration[4] and some have classified it as a fabrication.[5] However, the great virtue of pondering over the creation of Allah is proven through many verses of the Quran, such as the following,

Verily, in the creation of the heavens and earth and the changing of day and night are signs for men of understanding

And in yourselves do you not ponder

Furthermore, there are many statements from the Sahābah and Salaf as-Sāliheen that support the meaning of the above mentioned Hadīth. Consider the following,

Abud Dardā (Radhiyallahu Anhu) mentions,

To ponder for a moment is better than worship for an entire night

Sirry as-Saqatī (Rahimahullah) mentions,

To ponder for a moment is better than worship for a year

4. To protect one’s home from the effects of Shaytān, the following actions should be done,

  • Recite Sūra al-Baqarah in your home. Rasūlullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) has mentioned,

“Do not make your homes into graveyards. Verily, the home in which Sūrah al-Baqarah is recited will be protected from Shaytān.” (Sahīh Muslim)

  • Read the following Du’ā when entering your home,

Allahumma Inny As’aluka Khairal Mawlaji Wa Khairal Makhraji Bismillahi Walajna Wa Bismillahi Kharajna Wa ‘Alallahi Rabbina Tawakkalna

O Allah, I ask you for the best entrance and the best exit. In the name of Allah we enter, in the name of Allah we exit and upon our lord Allah do we place our trust.

Thereafter, greet your family with Salam.[11] Moreover, when partaking of meals recite Bismillah. Rasūlullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) has mentioned,

When a person enters his home, if he remembers Allah (recites the Du’ā) when entering and partaking meals, Shaytān says (to the other Shayāteen), “There is no place for you to reside neither is there any food”. Alternatively, when a person enters his home and does not remember Allah, Shaytān says (to the other Shayāteen), “You have secured a place to reside and food to eat” (Sahīh Muslim)
