Trying to rectify oneself

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Does Islam require every person to be competent in every aspect of life as I read a dua of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) in which He asks shelter from Allah from Laziness, incompetence (Ijaz), etc.

Bismillaah

A: It is not possible for every person to become perfect nor are we required to become perfect in every respect. Yes, what we are ought to do is to try and rectify ourselves as much as we can.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
