Will Allah Ta’ala forgive me?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I am a muslim girl currently living in Norway and I wanted to ask something. I used to live in a small town with only norwegians who did not affect me in a good way, of course my weakness for this dune is also my own fault. It was not until i moved from her and my mother divorced from my father that i could connect with my inner iman. I am born muslim, but I didn’t feel like a muslim until now. My father never taught me anything about islam and he never prayed so i did not know the importance around islam. My mother did not have the time because she was always working, and my father was a really strict and mean man who didn´t allow her of taking to me and my siblings about islam. I currently live in the capital of norway, oslo. I started a new life with new friends who, ALHAMDULILLAH, are muslims and have taught me so much. I have drank alcohol 2 times ( I believe) on purpose in my life, the first time I was maybe 15 and second time i was 16. I am now 17. I have changed a lot since then (in my opinion), even though its not that long ago. The biggest difference ist that I pray, I started praying during the last ramadan alhamdullillah, but i can’t fast because of me being a diabetic and i am not active in the mosques around here because i am really emberassed and dont know what to do. I just wanted to give som background information, even though it was really messy. Anyways, i heard that if you are so lucky to be granted jannah and have not drank alcohol in this dunya, Allah subhanu wa ta´ala will give you pure honey, milk, water and wine from the rivers in jannah. I did not ask my friends because they do not know of my previous sins, so i am asking you. I know why it is haram but, Can Allah forgive me for my sins and grant me the same gifts as the ones who have not drank alcohol ?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Consider the following Ayaat (verses) of the Qur’an Kareem and Ahadeeth (traditions) of Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam:

Allah Ta’ala says in surah Furqan verse 71:

And he who repents and does righteousness, does indeed turn to Allah with [accepted] repentance[i].

He further states in Surah Zumar verse 53:

Oh my slaves who have transgressed against themselves. Despair not of the mercy of Allah. Verily Allah forgives all sins. Indeed He is All Forgiving Most Merciful[ii].

Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam is reported to have said:

A person who repents from a sin, is like he who has not committed the sin[iii]

Allah Ta’ala describes the rivers in Jannah as follows:

“The example of paradise which has been promised to the people of piety (is as follows) In it (Jannah) are rivers of water, pure and unaltered, rivers of milk the taste of which never changes, rivers of wine delicious to those who drink, and rivers of purified honey, in which they (the inhabitants) will have from all kinds of fruits and forgiveness from their Lord.[iv]

If a person sincerely repents from drinking wine and alcohol in this world, Allah Ta’ala will also grant that person the wine of Jannah.
