My menstrual period differs every month

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by AnswersToFatawa

As-salamu alaykum,

I have attached an excel file with the table that I need to fill in. My menstrual period differs every month. The cycle of last 3 times was 27, 25 and lastly 28 days. In June it lasted for 8 days, then 7 and then again 8.

Please refer to attached spreadsheet. I am most confused about the first few days when the bleeding is not continuous. I always wonder whether I should stop or start performing prayers, fast etc. And when can I regard my period has stopped? As you can see in June, I thought I stopped on June 10th and I started fasting on 11th. However, I observed one spot again on 11th. Was my roza/fasting of that day still valid or do I need to make up for that day?

Salaam

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is not a condition for the validity of menstruation that there is a continuous flow of blood. Spots of blood may be experienced which are also considered as menstruation[1]. After looking at the attachment, it seems that your cycle continues to change[2]. The eight days of blood experienced in June will be regarded as menstruation and therefore you will have to perform qadah of your fast.
