What is the ruling on Sajda e Shukr? – سجدہ شکر?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Jamia Binoria

Moulana Sahib,
What is the ruling on Sajda e Shukr? What is the status of performing Sajda e Shukr after hearing a happy news? These Cricket players make Sajda e Shukr after scoring a century and the spectators clap their hands. What is the ruling on it? Is it permissible or not? Zafraan, Karachi

الجواب حامدا و مصلیا

In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent and the Most Merciful
It is permissible and undoubtedly Sunnath to perform Sajda e Shukriya to be grateful and thankful to Allah the Almighty for any of the Ni’math or blessing bestowed by Him upon a servant, but, playing cricket in itself is Makrooh due to waste of time and other evils and negative consequences, hence leave alone Sajda e Shukriya, it is necessary to make Isthighfar on it whereas for clapping hands, it is a practice of kuffar and the Immoral people and it is necessary to avoid as per the Shari’a.

Allah knows best.
