Eating in restaurants where alcohol is served

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Tafseer Raheemi

Question

I have a question regarding eating in restaurants where food is halal but alcohol is served. I personally avoid such places however would like some evidence from Quran/Hadith to try and make my brothers understand, who like to go to such a restaurant.

Answer

There is a hadith in Mishkat-ul-Masabeeh, taken from Jami’ at-Tirmidhi and Sunan an-Nasai in which Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam says:

“Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should not sit at a table-spread on which wine is passed around”.
