Eating where alcohol is served

Is there a Hadith that states that we should not eat at a place where alcohol is served?

Answer

Sayyiduna Jabir (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“…And whosoever believes in Allah and The Last Day should not sit at a table where wine/alcohol is being passed around”

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2801. Imam Tirmidhi has declared this Hadith sound –hasan-)

This Hadith is further supported by corroborating narrations in Sunan Abi Dawud, Sunan Nasai, Musnad Ahmad, Mustadrak Hakim and Sunan Darimi.

(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 3774, Musnad Ahmad, vol. 1 pg. 20, Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 4 pg. 288 and Sunan Darimi, Hadith: 2137)

Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has declared his chain of narrators as authentic (sahih) and Hafiz Dhahabi concurs. Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) has declared the chain of narrators which appears in Sunan Nasai as good (jayyid).

(Refer: Fathul Bari. under Hadith: 5181)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
