End time for Magrib Salaah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Tafseer Raheemi

Question

Assalamualaikum,

Can you expalin the end time for Magrib Salaah as I always get diffrent answers. Some people say Magrib only lasts for 20 mins others say 40mins or an hour while someone said it lasts till the beginning of Isha. Why is it so difficult to determine the end time of Magrib?

Jazakallah

Answer

According to the Shafiee maslak, Maghrib should be performed immediately after sunset – it’s time is only for Wuzu and 3 rakats Fardh. But other madhahib say it’s more virtuous to pray it quickly. The jaiz time lasts up to the dissapearance of Shafaqe Ahmar (The reddish effects on the horizon).

In Summer, due to the lengthy days and shorter nights, this lasts for about 1 hour. In Winter, approximately 1 1/2 hours
