What is the ruling on supplicating for others?

What is the ruling on supplicating for others?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

It is recommended to make dua for others, because the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said,

“The supplication of a believer for their fellow believer is answered. At their head is an angel assigned to say, “Ameen, and may you have the same,” every time they supplicate for their fellow believer.” [Related by Muslim]

There are also numerous Qur’anic examples of the Prophets and righteous believers supplicating for others.

The hadith commentators explain that one of the reasons why such supplications are answered is that they are inherently sincere: there is little self-interest in it.

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani
