My father’s inheritance

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

My father recently passed away and I was given some inheritance money from my older brother. I don’t know how the money was allocated but everyone seems ok with everything. Does the money still need to be split according to Islamic guidelines or is it ok to do it anyhow if nobody minds.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

It is religiously obligatory to divide the estate of the deceased according to the Islamic rules of inheritance.

Please consult a reliable local scholar for guidance on how to proceed, in a way that is unwavering yet wise and gentle.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani
