A narration on speaking in the Masjid

Is the following narration authentic?

عن الحسن، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: يأتي على الناس زمان يكون حديثهم في مساجدهم في أمر دنياهم، فلا تجالسوهم، فليس لله فيهم حاجة

Answer

Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) has recorded the version you have cited with a weak chain.

(Shu’abul Iman, Hadith: 2701. Also see Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, Hadith: 36458)

Although this version is weak, the following Hadith has been reported through a reliable chain.

Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has recorded the following version and has declared it authentic. Hafiz Dhahabi concurs.

Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Soon a time will come wherein people will group up in their Masjids, their only worry and concern will be the affairs of the Dunya, Allah has no need for these people so do not sit with them”

(Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 4 pg. 323. Also see Sahih Ibn Hibban; Al Ihsan, Hadith: 6761)
