When Allah loves a person, he protects him from the worldly pleasures

Is this narration authentic?

“When Allah loves a person, He protects him from the world [by not giving him abundant worldly possessions] just as one of you prevents his sick from water [when water is harmful for him]”

Answer

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyiduna Qatadah ibn Nu’man (radiyallahu ‘anhu) and has declared the Hadith sound (hasan).

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2036)

Imam Ahmad (rahimahullah) has recorded the following version on the authority of Sayyiduna Mahmud ibn Labid (radiyallahu ‘anhu):

“Allah protects a Mu’min [from the enjoyments] of this world when he loves him, just as one of you prevent a sick person from eating [certain] foods and drinking water [when these are harmful for him] fearing for his health”

(Musnad Ahmad, vol. 5 pg. 427)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
