Hadith regarding the ‘Ulama in Jannah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

I have heard someone saying that an ‘Alim in jannah will answer the questions of Jannite. or something to this effect. Is this authentic?

Answer

The following narration is probably what you heard:

‘Indeed the inhabitants of Jannah will need the ‘Ulama therein. That is because they will visit Allah Ta’ala every Friday. Allah Ta’ala will say:

‘Ask from me what you wish’

The inhabitants of Jannah will then turn to the ‘Ulama to ask what should they wish for?

The ‘Ulama will answer them appropriately. Hence they will need the ‘Ulama in Jannah just as they needed them in the world.

This is recorded in Musnadul Firdaws of Imam Daylami and other sources, but has been declared as a fabrication by ‘Allamah Dhahabi (rahimahullah)

(Mizanul i’tidal, vol.3 pg.436)

‘Allamah Suyuti & Mulla ‘Ali Qari (rahimahumallah) have agreed to this verdict.

(Dhaylul La-ali, hadith: 198 & Al-Masnu’, hadith: 53. Also see Faydul Qadir, hadith: 2235)

There are numerous excellent virtues for the ‘Ulama that are mentioned in the Quran and Hadith. One should quote those reliables ones instead.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
