Sajdah aayah which appears at the end of a surah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

As salaamu Alaykum Mufti Saheb
What is the ruling of a sajdah aayah which I s recited in salaah.. meaning if the aayat comes at the end of the surah. For instance Surah Alaq .. when is that sajdah made ?

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

If you are praying alone and recite a verse of Sajda at the end of the Rak’ah, you will have two options:

  1. Either you proceed into Sajda, and when you come you may recite a verse or two from the next Surah (Surah al-Qadr – in your example), and then proceed into Ruku’
  2. Immediately after reciting the verse of Sajda, you go into Ruku’, but make the intention of Sajda at-Tilawah in the Ruku’.

Both of these options are correct, but the second option is better.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best

Wassalaam,

Ismail Moosa (Mufti)
