People tell me there is no evidence in any madhabs of wearing pants above ankles. the beard they say that Maliki madhab only has a goatee or hair around mouth and chin and not whole beard as minimum

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Someone told me that nowhere in any of the four madhabs is that we have to wear our pants or izar above our ankles. Is this true? If it is then but there are hadith which say to do this, so I am confused whether we should do taqleed or what? As well as the beard they say that Maliki madhab only has a goatee or hair around mouth and chin and not whole beard as a minimum, so what is a maliki to do when discussing the beard according to hadith we must not shave so what is this I am confused whether to do taqleed of the madhab or follow hadith.

Answer

The assumption of this ‘someone’ is inaccurate.

The prohibition of this deed according to the Hanafi Madhab could be found
in Shaami vol.6 pg.351 and Fataawa Hindiyya vol.5 pg.333

Among the Shaafi’ee, great scholars such as Imaam Nawawiy and Haafiz ibn
Hajar (RA) have also mentioned the severity of this deed. (Sharh Muslim and
Fathul Baari)

For the ruling regarding other Madhaahib, we suggest you consult the
respective Ulama.

We are unable to confirm the ruling of the Maaliki Madhab regarding the
length of the beard as mentioned by yourself. However, the ruling of the
following Maaliki scholars apparently contradict your statement:
1. Qaadhi Abdul-Wahhaab (RA) in al-Ma’oonah (vol.3 pg.1706)
2. Imaam Abul-Waleed al-Baaji (RA) in al-Muntaqa (vol.1 pg.266)
3. Ibn Rushd (RA) in al-Bayaan wa Tahseel (vol.17 pg.3391)
4. Al-Qurtubi (RA) in al-Mufhim (vol.1 pg.512 – 513)
5. Muhammad ibn Khulfha al-Ubbi in Ikmaal-ul-Ikmaal-lil-Muslim

After studying the above, you would note that the Madhaahib of Fiqh conform
to Hadith. Hence, there is no reason for your confusion.

We still advise that you consult authentic Maaliki Ulama on this subject.
