I threw more than 7 pebbles because I could not determine whether the pebble had made impact

Was my Haj valid?

When, I performed Haj in 2014, and we reached the stage of the final Jamrat it was very crowded, and it was a struggle for me to hit all 3 if I remember correctly Shaitans. I threw more than 7 pebbles because I could not determine whether the pebble had made impact, and I tried to throw over and above the crowed above to avoid injurt, and I thought I’d get a better view if it would hit, but it was still tough to tell.

I’ve been told if I had hit or not the effort/intention was there, so Insh’Allah this part of my Haj will be accepted, and the entire Haj AND not makruh? I was also told the more I kept thinking had it hit or not was nothing more than Waswasa? Is this correct in your view?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is not a condition for the validity of one’s rami for the pebbles to hit the pillar and to make impact. If the pebbles are thrown in the well around the pillar, the rami is valid[1].

لَوْ رَمَاهَا مِنْ مَكَان بَعِيدٍ فَوَقَعَتْ الْحَصَاةُ عِنْدَ الْجَمْرَةِ أَجْزَأَهُ، وَإِنْ لَمْ تَقَعْ عِنْدَهُ لَمْ تُجْزِهَا إلَّا إذَا، وَقَعَتْ بِقُرْبٍ مِنْهَا؛ لِأَنَّ مَا يَقْرُبُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الْمَكَانِ كَانَ فِي حُكْمِهِ لِكَوْنِهِ تَبَعًا لَهُ، وَاَللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ.

المحيط البرهاني في الفقه النعماني (2/ 431)

 في موضع وقوع الحصاة فنقول: ينبغي أن تقع الحصاة عند الجمرة أو قريباً منها حتى لو وقعت بعيداً منها لم يجزه؛ لأنا إنما عرفنا الرمي قربة بالشرع بخلاف القياس في مكان مخصوص إلا أن قريب الشيء حكمه حكم ذلك الشيء، فيعمل بالبعيد عن الجمرة بقضية القياس.

الفتاوى الهندية (1/ 233)

فِي مَوْضِعِ وُقُوعِ الْحَصَى فَنَقُولُ يَنْبَغِي أَنْ

تَقَعَ الْحَصَاةُ عِنْدَ الْجَمْرَةِ أَوْ قَرِيبًا مِنْهَا حَتَّى لَوْ وَقَعَتْ بَعِيدًا مِنْهَا لَمْ يَجُزْ كَذَا فِي الْمُحِيطِ

جو کنکر قریب جمرہ کے گرے تو بہی جائز ہے اگر دور گرے تو صحیح نہیں اور تین ہاتہ دور ہے اس سے کم قریب (زبدۃ المناسک، ص188)
