Can a woman in menses (Haidh) fast during Ramadaan and then make it up (make Qadha) of it after Ramadaan?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by TheMufti.com

Q. I have a question about fasting and periods. My questions is can I fast while I am on my periods but I will remake it when I remake the fasts that I missed?

A. A woman in Haidh (menstruation) is exempted from fasting during the month of Ramadaan. If a woman experiences Haidh during a fast/s of Ramadaan, it is compulsory upon her to make Qadha of the fasts in which she experienced Haidh. Hence, she cannot fast whilst in the state of Haidh. (Badaai’-us-Sanaai’ 2/94).

However, even though she cannot fast in the state of Haidh, she should not eat or drink openly in observing the sanctity of the month of Ramadaan (Shaami 1/253).
