Reciting the Takbir when completing the last few Surahs of the Quran

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Are there any virtues mentioned in the Hadith for reciting the takbir from Surah Duha to Surah Nas when one is completing a recital of the Quran?

Answer

Imam Hakim and others have reported that when Sayyiduna Ubayy ibn Ka’b (radiyallahu’anhu) recited the Quran to Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam), he was instructed to recite the takbir with every surah, from Surah Duha till the end of the Quran.

The authenticity of this Hadith is challenged by some eminent Imams of Hadith, however it has indeed been declared authentic (sahih) by other Muhaddithun.

Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) has strongly supported this Hadith.

Imam Shafi’i (rahimahullah) has also labelled this practice as a sunnah.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
