Relying on a scholar of Deen

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: What are the sources in deen which can be relied upon? If something was done by a righteous scholar which is not proved by sunnah or Sahaabah or fiqh, will it be part of deen?

Bismillaah

A: Rather than condemning him see if you can speak to the scholar or those that know him. He may have some reason and proof.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
