Question: As salam alaykum,

What can I do to repent from slander when the person I have spoke ill of does not want to forgive me?

Answer: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,

I pray that this message finds you well, insha’Allah.

If you spoke ill of another person, without need or benefit, then you must repent for your sin. However you do not need to seek the person’s forgiveness if the matter will not reach them. If it did reach them, you should ask them to forgive you.

Pray the Prayer of Need (salat a-hajah), give a little charity, ask Allah for facilitation, take them a gift, and ask that they forgive you. [How Does One Perform The Prayer Of Need (salat al-haja)? and: Struggling to Have Children: Ten Key Etiquettes of Du’a]

And Allah alone knows best.
