Crying in dua

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Tafseer Raheemi

Question

In Dua, is it good to cry?

How do you shed tears if it’s hard to get cry while doing dua?

Answer

Yes, of course it’s desirable to cry in dua. Crying infront of Allah cleanses the heart washes away the sins and brings one closer to Allah. If you can’t cry make yourself look like you are crying.

One hadith says:

“When reading the Qur’aan cry and if you can’t cry then make an attempt to cry”.

Another hadith says:

“The fire of Jahannam shall not touch two eyes. (1) The one which cried out of fear of Allah. (2) The one which spent the night in keeping guard in the path of Allah”.
