Does smoking break wudhu?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Tafseer Raheemi

Does Smoking break the wudhu?some Arab brothers here say it breaks the Wudhu.

Answer: No, smoking does not break the wudhu. The things that break wudhu are well documented. Smoking is not one of them.
However, since the smell produced by the smoking irritates people and it also deeply hurts the angles who are with us, therefore when coming for salah one should make wudhu from home and should not smoke on the way, and if he does so, then his thawab of salah will be reduced considerably.
One should try to get rid of that smell before entering the masjid. The prophet Sallallahu alayhi wasallam forbade the eating of raw onions and garlic when coming to the masjid, this was due to the smell it produces.
