What To Do If Ghusl Is Fardh And Fajr Is Getting Qadhaa?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Tafseer Raheemi

QUESTION

Assalaamu alaikum sheikh, if a person wakes up for fajr and is in need of a fardh ghusl but there’s only 5/10 minutes left, what should they do? There’s enough time to do wudhu and pray salaah but not enough to do ghusl and pray on time. Should they just do ghusl and then qadha? Also, if they have to do qadha would they be accountable for this whether it was through ihtilaam or being with ones wife? Jazaakallah khair

ANSWER

Walaykumsalaam Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh.

Regardless of when you woke up, it is Fardh (compulsory) for you to perform Ghusl (Bath/Shower). You cannot perform Salaah with Wudhu or Tayammum.

Try your best to perform the Faraaidh of Ghusl and recite Namaaz in it’s original time. If you cannot, You will have to perform Qadha after Ishraaq.

We hope Allah forgives the one who woke up in this situation, however it should be understood, one should not make a habit of this. You should wake up everyday knowing you could be in this situation, and that there will be enough time to perfom Ghusl if needed.
