As it is widely known, he was considered as the Abu Hanifa of our times. There was one particular question on which I would still need your clarification, please. The question is quoted below: (Q52) If someone didn’t pray isha with jamaat would this person be allowed to pray witr with jamaat or should he pray alone?

It was a pleasure to listen to your answers and I consider it an honor to have the opportunity to correspond with you for two very special reasons – firstly, I also happen to be from Hyderabad-Deccan and secondly, as a little boy, I have had the honor of attending two of Hazrat Abul Wafa (RA) Sahebs sessions. As it is widely known, he was considered as the Abu Hanifa of our times. There was one particular question on which I would still need your clarification, please. The question is quoted below: (Q52) If someone didn’t pray isha with jamaat would this person be allowed to pray witr with jamaat or should he pray alone? Your answer to this question was: ” Even in this case, witr should be performed with jamaat.” According to those who attended Hazrat Abul Wafa Sahebs Dars as well as Durre Mukhtar and Dar ul Mukhtar, as recorded in Bahar e Shariyat and Ahle Qidmat e Shariya, one should not pray Witr with Jamaat if one missed the Jamaat of the 4 Fard of Isha. I take it Zajaajat ul Masabih of Hazrath Alhaj Abdullah Shah Saheb also supports the Fatwa of Durre Mukhtar. Please do not misunderstand me, in no way am I questioning your authority, I’m simply trying to understand the reasoning behind your answer. (Switzerland)
It is possible that the answer had been misunderstood. If the person performs the prayer of ‘isha’ without congregation and then he can perform the prayer of ‘witr’
either in congregation or individually, in both cases his prayer would be OK. If you have read this in a book than again you must have misunderstood its content, otherwise give us the reference.

A person cannot pray ‘witr’ in congregation, or even individually, if he has not prayed ‘isha’ already. This is what it should mean from what you are stating. But if someone had already prayed ‘isha’ then he can pray ‘witr’ as he likes.
