Is it permissible to use black dye to get rid of my grey?

I came across a question regarding the prohibition against dying ones hair black, and was rather taken aback for I was not aware of this injunction against black hair. I have jet black hair, can you confirm whether or not it is permissible to use black dye (i.e. Clairol) to get rid of my grey. And if this is not permissible then should I try to lighten my hair and use another dye. Can you give me an example of permissible colors I can use.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Wa Alaykum Assalam wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuhu,

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful & Compassionate

From a previous question answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani:

It would be prohibitively disliked (makruh tahriman) and sinful to dye your hair black, though other colors would be permitted

From a previous question answered by Shaykh Muhammad ibn Adam al-Kawthari:

It is permissible, rather recommended (mandub) to dye the hair of the head (and beard for men) provided the ingredients used in the hair dye are Halal.

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said:

‘Change the old age (white/grey hair), and do not imitate the Jews’ (Sunan Tirmidhi & Sunan Nasa’i).

He (Allah bless him & give him peace) also stated:

‘The best dye to change your old age is Henna (a red plant dye) and Katm (type of grass)’ (Narrated by many Hadith Imams).
