I was over overpaid at work and when I tried to return the money the person who dealt with me said not to worry about it and would not take the money. As far as I know she had no authority in the company except her post, does this mean I should still try to pay back the company. I no longer work there and therefore have no real contact with them.

It would be best to contact someone senior in the right department in the company and explain the situation. If they clear you, then there is no doubt that you can keep the extra money.
