Inappropriate Workplaces

Question:

Are Men allowed to work in a shop when women are arriving, is such a job permissible for a man? because he has to lower his gaze all the time in the shop they play music all the day, is it allowed to work there?
It is his fathers shop and he can’t leave his father and go elsewhere.

It is not permissible to work in a shop wherein music is played throughout the day especially when the owner is a Muslim and committing such Haraam can and must be avoided, unlike in the case of women coming to the shop which is inevitable.

In this case one should make full attempt to look for another job without considering the fact that he cannot leave his father’s shop, as it is stated in a Hadith that the creation (of Allah) cannot be obeyed in the disobedience of Allah.

He can work in his father’s shop until he finds a suitable job elsewhere but he should lower his gaze as much as possible and he should also turn his attention away from the music if he cannot have it turned off.  (Aapke Masaail aur Unkaa Hal, Vol. 6, page 251)
