It is an Heresy (بدعت) to kiss the thumb (انگوٹھے چومنا)

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Jamia Binoria

Assalamu Alaikum Janab Mufthi Sahib,
What I want to know is that in our School of Thought (Deobandi) it is an innovation (Bid’ath) to kiss the thumb whereas among the Barelvi Hazarath it is somewhat necessary that they kiss the thumb when they hear the holy name of Nabi e Kareem Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam in Azan. Since the Barelvi Hazarath call themselves as Hanafis, please send such a proof refuting the kissing of the thumb according to Fiqh e Hanafi so that a Barelvi could be silenced in case it is discussed with him. Thanks. 2: During the Namaz of Maghrib, when we join with the Jamaat in the last Raka’at, that Raka’at will be the first Raka’at for muqtadii or the last Raka’at?…after finishing of jamaat…the new Raka’at will be our 1st or 2nd Raka’at..and in that Raka’at we will read “sana”or not?………..please clarify 3: Apart from passing urine and stool is it necessary to do Isthinja (cleaning) after passing wind too? Please clarify.

1.Barelvi Hazaraath present some narrations with regard to kissing of thumb. Commenting on these narrations Imam Jalaluddeen Suyoothi Rahimahullah writes…, “All those Narrations which mention about kissing of thumbs and placing them over the eyes while listening the holy name of Rasoolullahi Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam in Kalima e Shahada in Azan are fabricated and invalid.” (Thaiseerul Maqal lissuyoothi-Rah e Sunnath p243).
Similarly, Allama Shami Rahimahulla states in Raddul Mukhthar (Vol 1, p398) about these narrations as unauthentic and incorrect.

2.After the completion of the congregational Namaz regardless of Maghrib or any other, the order in Qira’ath for the Masbuq (one who joined late and missed some raka’aths) while completing his missed Raka’ths will be as 1st, 2nd and 3rd Raka’ath. That is the reason behind the necessity of reading Sana, Tha’ awwuz, Fathiha and a Sura in his 1st Raka’ath, and the Raka’ath he prayed with the Imam will be considered as his last Raka’ath. (Durrul Mukhthar Vol 1, p596)

3.Passing out of wind invalidates Wudhu and it is not necessary to do isthinja (cleansing) if no impurity is emitted and it is sufficient to make only Wudhu. (Raddul Mukhthar Vol 1, p135)

Allah knows Best.
