Translation of a du’a Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would recite when leaving a gathering

Question

Can you please provide an explanatory translation of the du’a in this answer?

Answer

The du’a referred to in the link above is a du’a Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would often recite when standing up from a gathering.

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports: “Rarely would Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) stand up from a gathering but that he would make the following supplication:

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 3502)

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith sound (hasanun gharib).

The explanatory translation is as follows:

O Allah! Apportion for us your fear, [such a portion] that will intervene between us and Your disobedience, and of Your obedience which will [allow] us to reach Your Jannah, and [grant us] such conviction [in You and in believing that nothing affects us except through Your decree] which will ease the worldly calamities upon us. Allow us to enjoy [the faculties] of our hearing, eyesight, and strength for as long as we living and make these [faculties] remain [healthy until death], and allow our vengeance to [only affect] those who oppress us, assist us against those who are hostile against us, do not make any calamity affect our Din, do not make [seeking and amassing] the dunya our greatest concern nor the limit of our knowledge [i.e. do not make us such that our only thoughts and worries are regarding the world], and do not give authority [to a leader] over us who doesn’t have mercy upon us.
