Sending salutations (durud) to Ambiya

Kindly mention the narration in which we are requested to send salutations upon all the Prophets ‘(alayhimus salam) just like we send upon Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)

Answer

1) Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Send salutations upon the Ambiya of Allah, for verily Allah sent them as well”

(Musannaf ‘Abdur Razzaq, Hadith: 3118 with a weak chain. Refer Nataijul Afkar, vol. 4 pg. 53 and Al Qawlul Badi’, pg. 134)

2) Sayyiduna Anas (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“When you send salutations upon me, then send salutations upon the Ambiya as well,  for I am a Messenger from among the Messengers”

(Tarikh Asbahan and Tafsir Ibn Marduyah. Declared sound –hasan– by Hafiz Ibn Hajar. Refer: Nataijul Afkar, vol. 4 pg. 54. However Hafiz Ibn Hajar states that the mursal version, reported from Qatadah -rahimahullah- is stronger)

‘Allamah Sakhawi (rahimahullah) has cited more narrations of this nature. Kindly refer to Al Qawlul Badi’, pgs. 133- 136

‘Allamah Nawawi (rahimahullah) has dedicated a chapter in his book,  Al Adhkar:  ‘The Chapter on sending salutations upon all Ambiya and their families…”. He further states that it there is consensus on the fact that it is permissible and mustahab to send salutations upon all Ambiya.

(Refer: Al Adhkar, pg. 215)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
